Oral Hygiene and Diet

Brushing and flossing

It is important that the parent be involved in the child's oral hygiene regimen at least until 8 years of age.  We encourage the child to brush their own teeth in order to develop good oral hygiene habits.  However, until 8 years of age, this brushing by the child should be followed up by the parent doing the brushing and flossing.  After 8 years of age a child should be able to brush and floss their own teeth well enough as long as the parent continues to supervise.  Always use a toothbrush with soft bristles. We will demonstrate proper oral hygience practices to you and your child at each check-up visit.

Good Diet and Healthy Teeth

The teeth, bones and soft tissue of the mouth require a healthy, well-balanced diet. A variety of foods from the five food groups helps minimize (and avoid) cavities and other dental problems. Most snacks that children eat cause cavities, so children should only receive healthy foods like vegetables, low-fat yogurt and cheeses, which promote strong teeth.
